Silhouettes Dance Company’s 2019-2020 Exec Team

Artistic Director Olivia Hsuen

Artistic Director Olivia Hsuen

My name is Olivia, and I am one of the Artistic Directors of Silhouettes Dance Company for the 2019-2020 season. I am a fourth year student at U of T, majoring in economics and minoring in art history and math. This is my second year as Artistic Director and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with this talented company again.

I have been dancing as long as I can remember, starting in competitive dance training, and later moving on to performance dance. I like a little bit of everything, but my favourite styles are modern, contemporary, and the umbrella of styles under 'hip hop'. My fondest dance memories are from high school at Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, where I majored in dance under the most caring and talented teachers, to whom I am ever thankful. I am looking forward to our upcoming show, Terra, and seeing what our dancers bring to the stage.

Company Administrator Abby Riding

Company Administrator Abby Riding

I’m Abby, and I am this year’s Company Administrator. I am in my final year of my undergrad at UofT, majoring in Criminology and Health Studies. This is also my fourth year in Silhouettes, with three years on the executive team, previously holding the Financial Administrator role in 2017-18 and one of the Artistic Director roles in 2018-19.

I have been involved in dance since I was five years old. I have trained in jazz, ballet, tap, acro, modern, lyrical, hip hop, and contemporary. Silhouettes offers the scarce opportunity for dancers to continue dancing post-secondary. The company has allowed me to expand myself creatively and artistically as a dancer in a way that I couldn’t when I was younger. Additionally, Silhouettes allows me to move and create with an amazing and talented group of dancers, through which I am constantly challenged to give more of myself.

As my Silhouettes saga comes to an end, I am incredibly excited to see the company beautifully articulate Cade and Olivia’s vision for this year’s show, Terra.

Financial Administrator Nancy Wu

Financial Administrator Nancy Wu

My name is Nancy and I am the Financial Administrator for Silhouettes in the 2019-20 year. I’m a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto specializing in architectural studies and hopefully minoring in psychology. This is my second year in the company.

I was forced into dancing by my mom when I was in high school, and later I was unwilling recruited by my friends to perform hip hop at school events. To my own surprise, I ended up finding dance extremely fun and invested time into learning choreography from YouTube. I started taking dance classes in my last year of high school and it was then that I came to contact with the many more genres of dance. I'm best at hip hop but my favourite style is contemporary. The company has been a safe and encouraging place, and this past year with this bunch of charismatic dancers has been a lot of fun. I am excited for the many more shows to come.

Artistic Director Cade Greer

Artistic Director Cade Greer

My name is Cade, I am one of the Artistic Directors of Silhouettes’ 2019-2020 year.  I am a second year undergraduate student at UofT majoring in Kinesiology. I was the Media Coordinator for Silhouettes’ 2018-2019 year and as my third year of being a part of this amazing company, my love for it has only continued to grow.

I started dancing when I was 8 years old after quitting competitive gymnastics as a child.  My passion for dance grew through the love and support of my dance teachers and my fellow dancers which continues to grow and prosper at Silhouettes through the family it has created.  I enjoy dancing multiple styles of dance such as jazz, jazz funk, hip hop, and contemporary while experiencing new styles that Silhouettes incorporates into the show every year! This company has given me amazing opportunities and has expanded my creative horizons.

Media Coordinator Gabby Faig

Media Coordinator Gabby Faig

My name is Gabby, I’m the Silhouettes Media Coordinator for the 2019-2020 year. This year will be my second year in both the company and at the University of Toronto. I am currently specializing in Archaeology with a minor in both Anthropology and Classical Civilizations. I’m very excited to work with my wonderful friends in the company to make this the best year yet.

Growing up I played every sport imaginable, soccer, swimming, rock climbing, gymnastics, and only started dancing when I was 10. Although I first started in jazz and ballet I now focus on hip hop and contemporary styles. Moving from Calgary to Toronto was an incredibly difficult change for me but the family I made through Silhouettes made everything worth it. This company not only allows me to continue to pursue my love of dance while at university, but introduced me to new people, ideas and opportunities. I am so excited to be a part of the new Exec Team and to continue dancing with my friends.
